Dragon boat canoeing is an ancient Chinese nautical practice carried out in boats up to 13.5 meters long and with a total weight of up to 2 tons, including the 22 crew members.
With 20 rowers , evenly distributed on both sides, a coxswain at the stern and a drummer at the bow responsible for replicating the rhythm with a drum. This ancient activity combines strength, coordination and teamwork .
We rowed side by side in a Dragon Boat, to the rhythm of the drum, one heart, UMAUMA! UMAUMA!
In 1996, Dr. Don McKenzie, a physician, professor of sports medicine, and avid canoeist, introduced the Dragon Boat Program for breast cancer survivors, training 24 volunteers for three months at a gym before introducing them to Dragon Boating. By the end of the paddling season, none of them had developed lymphedema, experiencing physical and emotional benefits, including improved health and social support.
Thus, the pioneering team, Abreast in a Boat, was founded in Vancouver, Canada. Over the years, the movement progressed, resulting in more than 310 Dragon Boat teams in 37 countries, including Brazil with 21 teams.
This sport highlights the ability of survivors to lead full lives, as well as raising awareness about breast cancer.

OUR FACILITIES
UMAUMA is based at the São Paulo Yacht Club (SPYC), a private members' club founded in 1917 and located on the Guarapiranga reservoir. With a 12,000 square meter area, wooded and surrounded by water, the club offers easy access. Its facilities include a swimming pool, sailing school, beach tennis, boat storage, restaurant, and the city's most charming pub.
The site also features a pontoon for boarding and disembarking, access ramps, and a winch to remove boats from the water, as well as a nautical support team that assists us with Dragon Boat paddling.
Although private, SPYC also develops an important social side in partnership with UMAUMA, which works directly in this area, strengthening ties between members and the community through events and activities that encourage integration and interaction.
